It’s not been a terribly productive weekend; ICT – wise. Still, not a complete write off. I was out away most of Friday and all of Saturday. Greenelf/Maureen kindly contacted me this a.m. and introduced me to and went through the steps of a piki wiki application with me. For anyone who has not encountered this it is really quite interesting and, more importantly, applicable to our course requirements. One g-mail and commenting on blogs is about the extent of today’s tangible ICT accomplishments.

Limbo

Really I haven’t much to write tonight / this morning. I’m in a sort of limbo
I was able to going on a Skype connection with first Maureen and, then, Glen the other evening. After a few mistakes I was able to invite them. It was a very productive evening. Personally, I was able to get bloglines up and running. That is such a time saving tool. I can easily imagine using it with a class and sharing it with a class. Sometimes applications make immediate sense. Those are my favorites!

As for flickr … I’ve still to go back. I’m getting sidetracked on non ICT related tasks just now. The paper … well, we’ll see.

Something happened tonight. I’m not certain what but I believe that it has shifted me forwad in my Flickr dilemma.

Okay, I lied, as soon as I wrote this I went and read and commented on the class blogs … how lame … and I’m not deleting any of this post.

Everyone is off line tonight. Fine. It occurs to me that I haven’t made a blog entry for awhile. It’s a shame that we can’t write our thoughts as quickly as we think them. I’m going to take a tour through the class blog entries first before commenting further.

I can see by some recent comments that I’m not the only one pirating the pirate by picking saskatoons … if you know what I mean? Anyway, I can see that a couple of days ago I picked up info. for my blog page glossary of terms that now needs to be deleted. My own personal make work project. Yikes!

Why is it that I have been able to upload photos to my Flickr account but can not get them to show on my blog although I’ve inserted my URL in the widget configure box ? I was able to get the interesting prepackaged photos to show prior to this. I know that I’m missing some link step but do not know what it is. I’ll try again.

Quiet on the class blog front

It’s pretty much all quiet on the class blog front this p.m. I’ve commented on what was out there and that’s about all. It’s not late but it is later in the day than usual for me to begin.

When is the completion date for this course? I have to say that despite the interaction on the blogs etc. I still get the sense of being adrift sometimes.

It has taken me, with phone and other interruptions, most of the morning to complete. Yikes! Anyway, if you can access it then it has been worth it and I would try it again. I have to say that I like the vocal vs. visual

1. Nope: checked it myself and accessing via clicking on the URL is a no go. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Please advise. I will return!

Slide (or need/wants)

Note to self: Slide.com This is how I saved this thought earlier today and I’m just coming back to it now. I’ve been away from mine/any computer for a couple of days and coming back to it last night/today just drives home how pedestrian my grasp of the applications is.

My techy (sp?) little brother phoned tonight. He was calling up to get my bank info. so that he could transfer $ for some games he ‘needed’ and which I had picked up for him. We started a conversation on how important computer technology had been / has become in our lives. He is approximately a decade younger than myself. Games were where he began. They are still his preferred use for computers although he can do / or figure out how to do most applications quickly. The operant word here is quickly. He jokes with me about my being back in the stone age when I don’t do online banking. He helped install the high speed internet for the northern community that he lives in. He hasn’t any interest in blogging like me, or Facebook like his wife, or any conversations on line. He wants to play. Pure play.

I began by needing to enter data from a survey contract that I had successfully bid for back when my children were babies (approximately two decades ago). The surveys went well but I can still remember the feeling of the day I spent entering most of the data only to not save it on completion. It was a sniffly walk home. Then it was necessary to regroup and tackle the task again. I want to say that times have changed.

I think of my children as young adults. One is confident around computer technology; the other I actually recently advised on how to save assignments to floppy disk instead of retyping the whole assignment with revisions from the hard copy and at a new computer location (friend’s, class, etc.)

Tomorrow, I need to tackle a podcast or slide.com application?

Oh yeah, the Cool Cat Teacher blog also links to David Warlick’s video as a valuable insight into perspectives of students (University in this case) on learning. If you have some time it will be worth your while to check out. It’s a thought provoker for sure. It could be the ‘brainstorming map’ impetus for many academic papers … I think.

So, I find myself contacting accommodation in and around Minot to see if there is ‘room at the inn’ as it were. Well, somehow, probably from a fumbling of keys and mouse, I find myself with a Skype connection to a hotel … this while I’m in the act of phoning the place. Man, if it’s intentional I have difficulty making it happen but give me the spontaneous and I’m there.

Anyway, another partial day of external interruptions. Still some nice insight re: Atomic Learning with Cool Cat Teacher. It has helped with glossary tech. terms although they aren’t likely to be added tonight.

Delayed post

I am making a post now in case I don’t get back to my blog today. The last two days have just been full of external interruptions. This is the disadvantage of not having one’s own, working, computer. Yesterday I became caught up in trying to view a free on-line course, glitches and terminology Ah well, so far today I have read, watched and commented on everyone’s blogs. Some posts stay with me as I write. These include the juxtaposition of the video posted from David Warlick”s blog on a large university classes’ learning experience, the efforts of our own classmate’s to assist the teachers in technology at her high school and another’s newly hatched classroom blog for what I presume is a late early years/ early middle years class. There is such a range of applications!
